How to Play a Disc Game on Xbox One

StuartATrueRed

When you get the error do you own the game or app, then it's not reading the disc. It could be that the disc drive is faulty. You did say you have just bought it, so it could be a faulty drive. Just to be sure, take it back to the store, and ask them to check for you, then if it is the drive, you can then get a replacement xbox or your money back.

Was hoping I wouldn't have to, didn't think it would be a faulty drive on a new Xbox One S as it seems too unreal that my new console is getting the same issue that my old one had... just annoying.

" after getting a new one and getting the same problem I've realised it may not have been the disc drive all along, possibly an issue with my account?"

I agree, It sounds like an issue with your account.

Are you logging in with the gamertag, account that owns the game?

Checking Support for my account may assist you.

"the game is already installed via external hard-drive"

Under System>Settings>System>Storage does the XBox S recognise the external drive and if so, do you see the games in the Contents?

"and I can't try to re-install the games as the console will not load to disc to install again."

Try disconnecting the external HDD after you have turned the console off.

Restart console without external HDD attached, sign in, and the insert the game disc.

Does the Game disc show on your Home screen?

If so, when you click the game tile with disc icon, does it install the game?

Hope this helps you

It recognises the external hard drive and all my games are on there and when I unplug the hard drive and put a disc in. It still doesn't do anything.

Well, wierdly enough I got it to run a disc... I layed it down flat instead of upright in the Xbox One S stand that I got with it and it has run the game.

Not sure why that has happened since my old Xbox One was upright for 2 years and ran discs perfectly fine until 4 days ago...

Will have to check my old Xbox One while flat to see if that was the same reason it wouldn't work.

The original XBox one cannot be used upright, only S and X with a Stand.
